Christy Turlington Spotted at 14 by a photographer in Miami, Christy was signed to the Ford agency. She completed high school before moving to New York and taking up modelling.



Now 38, Christy has picked up some major contracts along the way, among them a prestigious Maybelline cosmetics deal (said to be worth £1.8 million for 12 days work a year) and another for Calvin Klein's Eternity.

For many year, Christy enjoyed the high-life - drinking, smoking and staying up late. But that all changed when she lost her father to lung cancer in 1997. Christy quit smoking, put herself through a postgraduate course at NYU, and became a vegetarian, an anti-smoking activist and an opponent of the fur trade. She also launched an ayurvedic skincare range, called Sundari (Hindi for "beautiful woman") A yoga enthusiast, in 2000 Christy landed a deal with sportswear giant Puma to produce her own line of yoga clothing, called Nuala, meaning "meditation in motion".

Previously linked with actors Christian Slater and Jason Patric, Christy married film star Ed Burns in 2002. The couple are now parents to a baby girl, Grace.
